ever, tonight vallejo's mayor is not staying quiet after someone torched his law office over the weekend. the fbi is investigating the fire as a possible act of domestic terrorism. nbc bay area's jodi hernandez joins us in vallejo this evening. jodi, what do we have tonight? >> reporter: raj, vallejo police say they fully expect to have the fbi and atf help in this investigation. they say evidence that they pulled from mayor osby davis' office has now been sent to an atf lab. meanwhile, the mayor is finally talking about what happened here. mayor osby davis talked to reporters about the arson fire for the first time this morning. he said he does believe the torching was political. while he would not elaborate on who he believes is behind it, he certainly has had plenty of critics through the years. he has most recently taken a lot of heat for a slew of officer-involved shootings. the mayor says whoever is responsible, he is determined not to let this steer him from his profession as a lawyer or from his duties as mayor. >> although i believe that the last criminal act is part of

, first of all, the neighborhood is quiet right now. vallejo police are really trying to figure out what the motive was behind this whole dispute that left two neighbors dead. now, some people who live here say that the suspect lived in this home that had a u.s. marine flag flying in the yard. that he was known to have guns. vallejo police took that man into custody. this all started about 6:00 last night. police got a call of several shots fired and two people laying down in the front yard. both of them pronounced dead here at the scene. their names have not been released but they are 50 and 58 years old, possibly two men. now, the suspect apparently took out a gun and fired and that's what police are saying, that he confronted two men in the driveway. when police arrived, they say that the man was inside a home. police hostage negotiators tried to talk with him for about 45 minutes and he finally came out without incident and was arrested. i just spoke with one woman off camera who was very upset about this and said it was actually a couple who lived in the house where the victims died

tonight at 9:00 and 11:00. >> in vallejo in an early morning domestic disturbance turned deadly. the bizarre story involved a fire, a shooting, and several dead animals. here's the strange turn of events. >> this is the aftermath of a bizarre rampage, two men, known only as jason and jay jeremiah, went on in the early morning hours on sunday. >> got calls from multiple callers saying a there was a --ance at the residence and two men were fighting and breaking out windows and trying to set the house on fire. >> when police responded to the smoking home after 1:30 a.m., they encountered jason, uncooperative, and nude. police say that's when airmyarch 29, appeared, also naked, with a loaded rifle. he put the barrel of the rifle to an officer's stomach. >> another officer saw this and fired, discharged his weapon at the man. >> jeremiah was pronounced dead at nearby kaiser hospital. jason is now in custody. after that altercation the fire engulfed the home. vallejo fire department responded and quickly put it out. then officers uncovered a gruesome twist after following a trail of blood.

powell and vallejo and look over here. erica, if you could pan over here to show police are still stopping residents from going past this tape because of this hazardous materials situation of as you look down the road on powell, we understand it was in a residence, down here on this street that it happened. the call came in around 7:30 and according to the police we're getting from sf pd, they have a suicide in the unit where the person used chemicals. they had to evacuate a couple of buildings. when ways on the other side of the scene, the red cross has several people wrapped in blankets. the initial word that was about 15 residents were evacuated because of this hazardous materials situation, but in talking to the red cross who has been talking to these evacuees they think there could be more people than that that had to get out of building. they are still very busy trying to, in their words "neutralize the situation." and, in fact, at this point we might not be entirely sure what the chemical is. but again, we know that this started a little bit about 7:30. may have been part a
